How the scooter comes back up after flashing, how to teach in your keycard, and how to confirm that everything is in order.

What happens after flashing

Once Librescoot is installed, the scooter reboots on its own. Boot takes a moment. You'll see a black screen first, then the cluster screen in park mode.

Setting up keycards

When using the Installer

Installer 1.3+ On a fresh installation with the recommended Installer, you set up keycards before leaving the Installer. Select Start learning, hold each card against the reader at the front of the dashboard, then select Finish. The Installer counts the cards and activates them when you finish. You need at least one keycard unless you explicitly skip this step.

Cards set up this way are user cards that lock and unlock the scooter; you do not need a master card for that. You can reuse the card from your starter kit because Librescoot reads the same NFC cards as the original firmware. A fresh installation removes previously stored cards, so register every card you want to keep using.

Optionally, Add master card (advanced) in the Installer sets up a separate master card. It lets you teach in more keycards later without the Installer or command line, but it cannot unlock the scooter itself. More on Custom keycards.

To unlock the scooter, hold a user card against the card symbol for about a second. The status LED lights up yellow, then briefly green. The scooter is now unlocked and in park mode.

A short red flash means the card was not authorised. (While teaching in cards, a red flash can also mean the card is already stored.) If the status LED doesn't react at all to a card, see Troubleshooting.

After a manual installation

If you installed the scooter manually and no keycards were retained, it waits for a master card on first boot instead. You need two different cards: a master card to control learning mode and at least one user card to lock and unlock the scooter.

The status LED on the right side of the display blinks. Hold the master card against the card symbol to the left of the display for about a second. The LED briefly lights up, and the card is stored as master.

Tap the master card again. The turn signals come on and stay on; this is the learning-mode indicator. The status LED goes amber and stays amber while learning mode is active. Tap a second, different card: the status LED goes green for half a second and then back to amber, and the user card is held for saving. Tap the master card once more to leave learning mode. The turn signals go out, and only then is the user card saved, so do not skip this step.

Quick function check

Before your first ride, take a moment to sanity-check the display and the controls. That way you'll spot any subsystem that didn't come up cleanly after flashing.

Display and status bar

The display should show:

  • The main battery's charge level in the top left of the status bar. There is one icon per installed, detected battery; on stock hardware only the front slot is wired, so you normally see a single icon, and a wired rear battery adds a second.
  • The current time at the top center.
  • In the top right, depending on hardware and configuration: cellular reception (only with a SIM card inserted), GPS, Bluetooth, temperature, or the OTA status. Which icons you actually see depends on your setup.
  • A red (P) symbol for the parking brake below the speedometer, indicating park mode.
  • A statistics row at the very bottom with trip duration (DURATION), average speed (Ø SPEED), trip distance (TRIP) and total distance (TOTAL).

Checking versions

In park mode, hold both brake levers at the same time for about three seconds. A version box appears in the bottom right of the display, listing the versions of the scooter's four components: main computer (MDB), dashboard computer (DBC), Bluetooth module (nRF), and motor controller (ECU).

All four should show a version number. If you see a dash or "unknown" instead, one of the components probably didn't flash successfully. See Troubleshooting in that case.

Handlebar and switches

With a battery inserted and in park mode, you should get the following responses:

  • Pushing the indicator switch left or right blinks the corresponding indicators on the scooter and shows an arrow at the bottom of the display.
  • Pressing the horn produces an audible honk.
  • Pressing the seatbox switch unlatches the seat with an audible click.

If any of these doesn't react, the scooter probably didn't reach full park mode. The battery may be missing, or the internal AUX cell may be flat. More on States and Battery & energy.

A short test ride

If everything above worked, take two minutes for a short test ride on a quiet bit of ground – an empty parking lot, a calm side street, a courtyard.

Fold the side stand in. The (P) symbol disappears, the scooter switches to drive mode. Ride at walking pace with your eyes on the road, not the display, and try each brake briefly:

  • Both brakes should bite evenly and predictably.
  • Then stop, park, and check the display: the speedometer showed your speed while riding, and the energy gauge reacted to your inputs – accelerating moves the bar toward DISCHARGE, braking or coasting toward REGEN, with the current power value in kW below.

Once everything checked out, fold the side stand out again and lock the scooter with the keycard.

If something doesn't add up

If the first boot doesn't go through, the display stays black, or the maintenance screen comes up persistently, look at Troubleshooting first. The most common symptoms right after flashing are listed there, including what to do if the keycard isn't recognized or the battery doesn't respond.

If that doesn't help, ask in the Discord. There are usually other riders on the same scooter model who've already worked through similar steps.
